Should I Book an Outdoor or a Studio Photo Session?

Are you unsure of what kind of session you want? Let me help!

Following is a short list of pros and cons of outdoor (natural light) and indoor photo sessions, as I see it.

Let's start with Outdoor!

Pros:

  • Our area is beautiful! Why not showcase it in your portraits? Even if you were to move to a different area, you'll always have the memories of NW Arkansas!

  • We can chat while we walk around in search of the next ideal spot. This is pro, of course, only if you like to chat and get to know others better :)

  • There's a wide variety of natural backdrops, from the greenest greens in the summer, to the richest golds in the fall. And depending on the spot that we agree on, we could possibly see creeks, bridges, or even abstract, modern art.

  • How often do you go for walks in nature? An outdoor session is the perfect opportunity to get out of the routine and take a couple of hours to enjoy the outdoors with your loved ones. Breathe some fresh air, connect, and laugh a lot while I take your pictures.

Cons:

  • We are subjected to the weather (too hot, too cold, too humid, too windy, too rainy) which could result in rescheduling or even cancellations

  • Inconsistent light. Even if I pursue a certain style in my images, there's only so much I like to edit on them. My goal is to remain as faithful as possible to reality, so the tone and colors on your images will thoroughly represent the ones from your session.

  • You have to walk around. If you don't enjoy walks, maybe consider a studio session, because one of the points of doing an outdoor one is to choose five to seven great looking spots for your images. That might mean walking from spot to spot, which might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Let's move on to Indoor...

Pros:

  • Consistent light. At the studio, I'll use the same lighting set up for every session, meaning that rain or shine outside, you'll know what to expect from your images. They will be bright, authentic and joyful.

  • Regardless of the season or the temperature outside, my studio will always have a comfortable temperature. This is especially important to consider during the really hot summer days, and the extremely cold winter days.

  • Clean, simple, elegant backdrops. This style of photography focuses on yours and your loved ones' faces and the connection between you. This style is also ideal for professional headshots, because what matters the most is for me to get to your essence, who you really are, your real smile, etc.

  • Everything is done in one spot

  • No walking around necessary

Cons:

  • Limited backdrop variety

There it is! Did I miss something?

In the end, it's up to you and what's best for your and your family.
